Ashley Hayes ReportingEarly this morning, a man led police on a high speed chase only to evade them in an alley.
Apparently the man walked up to someone in their car, pointed a gun in their face and took the car. It happened around 2700 South 700 East.
Police got the call right after it happened and caught up with him on I-15. Speeds during the chase reached around 100 miles per hour.
The suspect exited the freeway, but ducked into an alley around 356 South 900 West, with police right on his tail.
He ditched the car and leaped out with officers right behind him.
Lt. Craig Gleason, Salt Lake City Police Dept.: "We had containment on the block very quickly. There's a lot of things going on in our favor, but usually when we're that close behind someone we have good luck. As of right now we're kind of stumped. We're still looking around."
Officials say people living in the area shouldn't be worried about the man coming in their homes. They say he more than likely just wants to get away or has gotten away.
Police searched the area with bloodhounds. They say they have found the weapon.
As far as we know, the driver was not hurt and no shots were fired.
Police believe the victims knew the suspect.
