SALT LAKE CITY -- A medical examiner has confirmed a body found near the Great Salt Lake Saturday is that of 8-year-old Trejon Fite.

A group of five family friends found Fite's body yesterday about seven miles from Saltair and 15 miles from where he first disappeared.

Fite was walking across a pipe over the Jordan River surplus canal near California Avenue and Redwood Road on June 13 when he somehow fell in. His disappearance prompted a massive search of the area, but his body wasn't discovered until now.

Fite's family says they are glad to finally have closure. There's been no word yet on any funeral arrangements.
