The reigning Miss USA is being investigated for unspecified "behavioural issues" and could be stripped of her crown if found guilty, organisers of the Miss Universe beauty pageant and reports said.
The organisation, which is owned by billionaire real estate magnate Donald Trump, said in a statement that Tara Conner had not been dethroned, as reports and rumours had suggested, but was under investigation.
"The Miss Universe Organisation and Mr Donald Trump will be evaluating her behavioral and personal issues to see what we can do to work with her and what we will do about her reign," the organisation said in a statement.
"Mr Trump will make a determination and announcement within the coming week," it added, without elaborating on the issues at hand.
According to her entry on the Miss Universe website, Conner, 20, enjoys playing basketball and golf and working with cancer charities.
Gossip columns in the US tabloid press, however, have been alive with reports alleging she has instead been spending time in New York clubs and engaging in activities ill-becoming a holder of the Miss USA tiara.
