(KSL News) A Sandy family was pulled over this morning, but not for the usual traffic violation.
They were driving their own car, with stolen plates.
Sgt. Jonathon Arnold/ Sandy City Police Dept.: "It appears the plates were from a stolen car and someone had switched the plates on the registered owner."
When officers ran the license plates they came back stolen.
According to police, someone stole a car and removed the plates. Then they found another car, stole the plates off it and replaced them with the stolen plates.
This car was the same make, model and year as the stolen car. Police say it's a way for criminals to stay in the stolen car longer.
In another case, police pulled over a different car after the plates came up stolen.
The person inside admitted to stealing the plates and was arrested. He won't be booked into jail, just cited with a misdemeanor.
