BEVERLY HILLS, Calif., Dec 13, 2006 (UPI via COMTEX) -- The impressive career of Tony Award-winning composer Stephen Sondheim is to be the focus of next year's Southland Theatre Artists Goodwill Event in California.
The 23rd rendition of the Beverly Hills, Calif., event, called "By Side By Side By Side By Side by Stephen Sondheim," will embrace the composer-lyricist's career with a pair on honorary concerts by guest conductor Gerald Sternbach, Playbill.com reported.
During his lengthy stage career, Sondheim has penned a series of award-winning musicals including "Into the Woods," "Sweeney Todd" and "A Little Night Music."
The March 10-11 event at the Wilshire Theatre will also mark the fourth time the annual AIDS benefit has honored Sondheim, as the composer's career was previously recognized in 1985, 1987 and 1996 renditions.
The Web site said in addition to the "Merrily We Roll Along" composer, the STAGE benefit has honored such musical talents as Cole Porter, Irving Berlin and Andrew Lloyd Webber.
