SANDY, Utah (AP) -- San Jose kicked in an own-goal in second-half injury time, allowing Real Salt Lake to tie the Earthquakes 1-1 on Friday night.

Real Salt Lake (5-6-5) extended its undefeated streak to five matches (2-0-3), tying a franchise record last done Sept. 27-Oct. 25, 2008.

Arturo Alvarez scored his fifth goal of the season in the 63rd minute for the Earthquakes (3-8-4), who got just their second road point of the year.

Real Salt Lake's Fabian Espindola was ejected with a red card in the 77th minute for a kick to the legs of San Jose's Brandon McDonald after McDonald tripped Espindola on a run down the sideline.

A man up late in the game, San Jose was minutes from its first road win and ending a 16-match road winless streak dating to a 2-0 victory at Columbus on June 7, 2008.

But in the second minute of stoppage time, RSL's Yura Movsisyan broke toward the goal from 15 yards. San Jose's Chris Leitch tried to get in the way, but instead, the ball ticked off him and over goalkeeper Joe Cannon's frantic dive, just getting into the net and giving Salt Lake the tie. ------ Story from: STATS LLC, http://www.stats.com.

MLS POSTGAME QUOTE SHEET FRIDAY, JULY 3, 2009 RSL 1 : 1 SJ RIO TINTO STADIUM - SANDY, UTAH

REAL SALT LAKE HEAD COACH JASON KREIS

On his team's response after halftime:

"I'm pleased with the response of the team. The second half the energy level was higher, the possession was higher and, guess what, we had a bunch of chances. And then in particular, after we got the ejection, I thought the guys responded the right way. But three points are a must at home, and we didn't get three points, so it's a failure."

On Fabian Espíndola receiving RSL's fourth red card in 16 games this season:

"I'm very, very frustrated. These decisions are costing us points. They are putting themselves before the team, and it's costing the team."

On failing to get the full three points against the last-place Earthquakes:

"Major League Soccer is very, very even. It doesn't matter who has how many points. Every time we face an opponent that is down lower on the table than we are, we think that we just have to show up and we are going win. And for me, that's got to change."

REAL SALT LAKE FORWARD YURA MOVSISYAN

On RSL's offensive struggles tonight:

"We didn't finish, we couldn't put one in. These guys, you could tell they were tired already and it was just a matter of us being sharp and we just weren't sharp enough today. I don't think I got a shot, which was very disappointing."

On failing to take advantage of playing at home tonight:

"It's going to be tough going into the break knowing that we let two points slip. San Jose is a team that fights. I don't think we under estimated them. It's a matter of scoring goals and getting the momentum, and we didn't do that today."

REAL SALT LAKE NAT BORCHERS

On having to play a man down for a fourth time this season:

"I didn't have a problem with Fabian [Espíndola] getting sent off because I felt like it injected some energy into the game and I felt like we were better. We needed to show some emotion, and him not being here did that for us."

SAN JOSE HEAD COACH FRANK YALLOP

On having to burn two substitutions in the first half:

"The two injuries cost us in the end because we couldn't make changes when we needed to. When some of the players in key positions were getting tired, we couldn't bring on fresh legs to help with the workload."

On Arturo Alvarez's goal:

"He's had something special this season. It was a terrific goal, one of the best goals of the season for our team."

On whether he was pleased with the effort on the road:

"Absolutely, we threw our bodies at the ball. It was a hard game to play with the altitude and coming off a break, which is never easy. We had a few guys that weren't 100% match-fit, but I was very proud of the way the players stuck in it and got a point here."

On allowing the late-equalizer:

"It's so emotional, in a game when you work 90-plus minutes and then one ball breaks you down. I thought that Salt Lake probably deserved to get a point. Conceding late goals has been a bit of a problem for us, but tonight's performance was a good one for us."

SAN JOSE MIDFIELDER ARTURO ALVAREZ

On the result:

"There are a few positives to take from the game, even though it feels like a loss. We came in here and got a point and now we have a game at home to look forward to."

On dropping points late:

"We definitely need to work on not giving up goals late in the game, and if we can do that we can turn our season around."

SAN JOSE GOALKEEPER JOE CANNON

On the result:

"Tonight, I have to give Salt Lake credit. They went a man down and kept fighting and fighting. The only disappointing thing tonight is that we couldn't kill off the game after being a man up."

On the Earthquakes' season hitting a turning point:

"We have been playing this quality soccer in the last four or five games, and I expect some great things to happen for us in the last half of the season."
