Sandra Yi Reporting Police have tracked down two people they think were involved in a violent robbery at a 7-11 store that happened early this morning. The getaway car led police to the suspects.
A beer run turned violent when one of the suspects beat the clerk and stomped on his head.
It happened at this 7-11 store on 490 N. Redwood Road just before 5 o'clock this morning. Two men walked in and took four 18-packs of beer. One of the suspects then went behind the counter and punched the clerk in the face, choked him and threw him to the floor. He said he had a gun and then stomped on the clerk's head several times.
Detectives spotted the getaway car, a Jeep Cherokee a few hours later. Coincidentally, it was parked at another 7-11 store. The people in that Jeep Cherokee identified the suspects.
Det. Joe Cyr, Salt Lake City Police Dept.: "The detectives who spotted the car this morning spoke to the occupants, and I don't know if they were the owners, but they said they had loaned the car to the two people involved in the robbery."
Detectives tracked down the two suspects at a home near 900 West and 800 South.
After after taking several suspects at that address into custody, four individuals were arrested.
They arrested a 21-year-old man who police believe beat the clerk.
Officers also arrested a 16-year-old.
They looked in the yard for evidence, and found beer cases in the trash can.
The clerk had head injuries. He is expected to be ok.
