SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- A Nevada judge will soon hold a hearing to determine whether several papers, ledgers and other documents seized when polygamist leader Warren Jeffs was arrested should be released.
The hearing is scheduled to take place on January 8th in U.S. District Court in Las Vegas.
Among those trying to get their hands on some of the F-B-I's seized evidence is a former member of The Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Saints. He's trying to collect on a lawsuit he won against Jeffs and Bruce Wisan, the special fiduciary of the church's financial empire.
Meanwhile, Jeffs' lawyers has filed a motion demanding the F-B-I return some of the evidence, claiming some of the papers are sacred.
The U.S. Attorney's Office in Utah is representing the F-B-I in the case and is fighting to keep the papers.
Jeffs remains in jail on charges of rape as an accomplice. His preliminary hearing is set for December 14th.
