RENO, Nev. (AP) -- A 23-year-old medical student was crowned Miss Nevada, a day after nervous organizers solved a mystery over the disappearance of the $400 crown.
Christina Keegan of Gardnerville, who recently finished her first year at the University of Utah School of Medicine, beat out 11 other women for the title Saturday night.
She wore the crown after pageant organizers discovered on Friday that an apologetic volunteer, not a thief, was to blame for its disappearance.
Keegan, who graduated with a bachelor's degree in biology from Pennsylvania's Rosemont College in 2008, says she plans to take a year off to compete in the Miss America pageant.
