John Hollenhorst Reporting One of the nation's best-known environmentalists is in town today raising funds on behalf of Utah's best-known environmental asset.
In just over an hour, Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. speaks at Westminster College about an organization dedicated to protecting the Great Salt Lake.
The Jordan River is one of three major rivers flowing into the Great Salt Lake. And what's unhealthy for this river is unhealthy for the Great Salt Lake.
That's part of the philosophy of the Waterkeeper Alliance, of which Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. is the president. The group's aim is to protect rivers and lakes around the world.

At Kennedy's speech today, a DVD produced by Salt Lake area high-school kids will get its first major public showing. Jeff Salt, the Waterkeeper Alliance's Great Salt Lakekeeper, says the kids' DVD asks the question: "Is the Jordan River swimmable?"
Jeff Salt/ Great Salt Lakekeeper, Waterkeeper Alliance: "My answer from my experience is no, this river is not swimmable, and that we need to do more to clean up the river."
Robert F Kennedy, Jr. is a son of the late senator and nephew of the late president.
Jeff Salt: "Mr. Kennedy's name and his experience and his reputation as a defender of the environment have coupled together to really help Waterkeeper Alliance grow globally and to help my organization locally."
The fund-raising event for the Waterkkeeper Alliance begins at 5:30 today with a showing of the kids' DVD. It's in the Jewett Center at Westminster College.
