For a press conference held to discuss a pancreatic cancer diagnosis, it was an upbeat and happy occasion inside the Marriott Center this afternoon.

The news was good and the outlook was encouraging as BYU head coach Dave Rose recapped an eventful and sobering two-and-a-half weeks, while leaving no doubt that he remains in charge of the Cougar hoops program and plans to retake his spot on he sidelines when BYU takes the court this fall.

The best news is that the cancerous tumor that led to emergency surgery has been removed and there are no signs of any remaining cancerous tissue. Further periodic scans will performed as Rose's health is monitored in the months and years to come.

I encourage you to listen the entire press conference by accessing the audio link in the "Cougar Cuts" box to the right--as Coach Rose, Dr. Scott Samuelson (of the Huntsman Cancer Institute and son of BYU President Dr. Cecil O. Samuelson) and BYU AD Tom Holmoe speak in a gathering that lasted roughly 40 minutes.

Afterward, I spoke with Jimmer Fredette, Jackson Emery and Jonathan Tavernari, and the expressions were universal in their gratitude for the currently positive outcome relative to Coach Rose's short- and long-term prognoses. Their interviews can be heard by clicking their respective audio links.
