SALT LAKE CITY -- A 58-year-old man is in extremely critical condition after a car hit him while he was riding his bicycle Monday afternoon.
Police say a female driver and the cyclist were traveling in the same direction near 1350 South and Main Street. The woman apparently had a severe diabetic problem and hit the man without even knowing it. She was stopped by an officer a couple blocks away.
Both the driver and bicyclist were transported to the hospital. The woman was examined and released, but the bicyclist, identified as Sidney Mabine of Salt Lake, remains in critical condition.
Investigators say if the driver's medical condition is determined to be the cause of the accident, charges will not be filed against her.
