Sandra Yi Reporting The couple is ready to let a jury decide whether their actions were criminal or just in the best interest of their daughter.
Lemuel and Julia Redd left the courtroom this afternoon without saying a word to reporters.
The couple recently hired a new attorney to represent them.
Their attorney, Rhome Zabriskie, cited personal reasons for the change.
Inside the courtroom, the Redds stood next to their attorney... who told the judge, they were ready to go ahead with a preliminary hearing.
That's when the judge will decide if there's enough evidence for the case to go to trial. Zabriskie declined to answer any questions about the couple's motive or their relationship with their daughter, but he says a lot of information will come out during that preliminary hearing, which is set for next week.
Rhome Zabriskie of Defense Attorney: "Obviously, this case is causing a lot of stress for the family, but we hope to resolve it real soon."
Prosecutors charged Lemuel and Julia Redd with kidnapping. They're accused of forcing their daughter Julianna to drive with them to Grand Junction, Colorado, so she would miss her wedding day, which was in August.
Since then, Julianna has married her fiance, Perry Myers and they are expecting their first child.
In a past court hearing, Myers' relatives said the Redds were angry when their daughter decided to get married in Salt Lake and not in her family's hometown of Monticello.
The couple's attorney says there are no plea deals in the works, but he says that doesn't mean that won't happen. He wants the case to be dismissed.
