TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (AP) -- A man accused in the severe burning of his baby boy has been released from jail.
Eric Ison Jones is charged with second-degree child abuse in the scalding of his 1-year-old son in bath water earlier this month. He was released from jail yesterday to the supervision of a Salt Lake County agency that assesses the flight risk of criminal defendants.
The child's grandmother is afraid Jones will run and NOT show up for his next hearing. However, Jones' attorney says the 34-year-old has been living in Utah for nine years and has no intention of fleeing.
Meanwhile, the baby --- Malachi Marsalis --- remains in the hospital with second and third-degree burns to the lower half of his body. Authorities say Jones watched the baby while the mother went to the gym. They say the mother later discovered the burns while changing the baby's diaper.
Jones' attorney says his client had nothing to due with the baby's injuries. His next hearing is scheduled December 12th.
