NORTHERN UTAH -- Some bear sightings in northern Utah have some people jittery about their camping trips, but it's actually been a rather mild year for bear encounters, and it could stay that way.

Stephen Colbert mixes no words about his fear of bears, joking that, "They're not just killing machines, but godless killing machines."

But in Utah, the reality is that we live in black bear country. Still, Division of Wildlife spokesman Mark Hadley says we may encounter fewer of them this year.

"There's a lot of good vegetation up in the mountains for the bears because of all the good rainfall and things that we've had," he said.

Wildlife officers have responded to one sighting in northern Utah. A bear got into some cabin areas in Woodland.

Hadley says people shouldn't let down their guards, should keep their camps clean and should never intentionally feed one.
