SALT LAKE COUNTY -- Salt Lake County sheriff's investigators have arrested two men for stealing high-end bicycles; some valued at as much as $5,000.

The men would take the bus up to the Olympus Cove area every day, steal the bikes, and then ride them downhill and right to the pawn shop.

Investigators say 28-year-old Nikolas Chandler and 24-year-old Anthony Barker repeated that pattern for several days, stealing 10 bikes in all.

They allegedly looked for homes with open garages or with bikes just sitting out front, but they didn't take just any bike.

"They also had some specific knowledge about bicycles and which bicycles were worth a lot of money, as opposed to a standard off-the-rack bicycle. And so they targeted these bikes that were in the $3,000 to $5,000 range," said Lt. Don Hutson, spokesman for the Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office.

Pawn shops are required to wait 10 days before selling any new merchandise, so investigators were actually able to recover eight of the bikes. The other two, which just happened to be two of the most expensive bikes, had already been sold at a fraction of what they were worth.

Both men were arrested on multiple counts of burglary. Investigators say this is a good reminder to lock up all your valuables.
