John Daley reporting Three teenage boys stuck in the Squaw Peak cliffs near Bridal Veil Falls will have to wait until morning for rescue.
Utah County search and rescue crews say they got a call by cell phone late this afternoon from three teenaged boys, all from out of state. They'd called 9-1-1 for help, after coming down from a 5 and a half hour free climb. They'd hit some rock fall, and got ledged out after climbing down to an area where they simply couldn't get out.
Sgt.Tom Hodgson, Utah Co. Sheriff's Office: "I've spoken with them. They're in good spirits. However they feel. They're in a little bit of danger because of where they're at. With nightfall, we couldn't get a helicopter in to them before dark. And so it becomes a hike into get them out. And also hike out. We do have enough technical gear on the mountain to get them off safely but it's just going to be a long night."
The Utah County Sheriff's Department search and rescue team knows exactly where they are. They flashed a light back and forth when spotted by Chopper Five.
But they won't be coming down tonight. Apparently they'll just stay put and get them off once the morning comes, and there's enough light to get them down safely without risking any other lives. With temperatures expected to dip under 30 degrees, it will be a cold long night for the boys.
