Cirque de Soleil is to bring a new winter-themed show to New York starting next year, the Montreal-based circus and entertainment giant announced Monday.
The production, which is yet to be given a name, is being created specifically for Madison Square Garden and will run for 10 weeks during the winter months for the next four years.
The show will have a narrative and storyline designed to present the theme of winter, according to the company. The full details of the show are to be unveiled in the new year.
"This is a tremendous opportunity for Cirque," the company's founder, Guy Laliberte, said in a statement. "The extended run will bring us into close contact with nearly a million New Yorkers."
Cirque du Soleil, which translates as Circus of the Sun, was set up more than 20 years ago and has found great success with its unique blend of traditional circus, theatre, music and special effects.
The company now has close to 900 artists performing in 13 shows on tour or in residence around the world.
