SANDY -- A short police chase ended with a shooting in Sandy Tuesday night. Police say an officer had tried to make a traffic stop, but the driver took off.
After a short chase, the car stopped at about 8000 South and 1300 East. At that point, a woman in a Jeep stopped to plead with the driver about something until he brandished a shotgun.
Police were able to get the woman out of harm's way before the man fired a couple of shots. No one was hit, but officers say the man then shot himself with the shotgun. He was flown to a hospital but died.
