SOUTH JORDAN -- Students at a local university are lashing out at some bad press they've received calling them geeks. School officials say they're trying to create a well-rounded computer engineer.
You'd think they would just talk about computers at a computer school, but not necessarily.
Neumont University Communications Director Stacy Hughes said, "They might take a music appreciation course or an art history course [or] public speaking classes."
Hughes says engineers can't be the stereotypical introverts anymore.
"Companies no longer want to hire the guy who has one skill and you put him in a closet and he sits down and codes," she explained.
Some students, like Neil Reinhart, don't appreciate the whole "introverted nerd" label, especially from a recent L.A. Times article.
"[We're] nothing like what they portrayed in the article," he said.
The article also suggested some students had trouble finding dates, didn't shower enough, and the women at the school are more like "dudes with long hair."
