A 66-year-old woman is expected to become Britain's oldest mother when she gives birth next month. While a story like this makes the news because not many women give birth in their sixties, why does it bother us so much? Do you know how much a woman of her age has to want to have a baby to go through just the invitro fertilization, let alone the birth? It is a painful process to say the least. I understand the shock value of this story, but I'm a bit confused over the controversy. Shouldn't we spend more time worrying about children who are abused by parents who don't want them and less time worrying about a child that is going to be born to a woman that wants nothing more in the world. Do we really need to protect a child from someone who is ready to show a baby so much love and has the means to give them everything they need. Since when are any of us too old to love and nurture a child. Do you really think a lot of women are going to follow in her footsteps? I'm exhausted just thinking about it. By the way, the oldest mother in the world is believed to be an Indian woman who gave birth at the age of 70 in 2008.
Maybe it bothers us because women no longer need a husband to have a child. But the breakdown of the traditional family is the topic for another day.
