SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Ballet West plans to cut four positions and freeze salaries as part of an effort to cut $1.2 million from its operating budget for the 2009-10 season.
The dance company will also request furloughs and reduce pension contributions for its administrative staff.
Executive Director Johann Jacobs says cutting the budget down to $6.3 million, from $7.5 million, is necessary because of reductions of up to 60 percent in some corporate and foundation contributions.
But Artistic Director Adam Sklute says the bulk of the company's programming will remain the same.
Ballet West staff already took a furlough in April, which saved about $50,000 on the current year's budget.
The company is currently at 38 percent of its subscriber ticket sales for next season, which is on par with expectations.
