British royal PRINCESS BEATRICE is set to be the first of her family to travel to space.

The 18-year-old daughter of the PRINCE ANDREW, DUKE OF YORK and SARAH FERGUSON has signed up to be a passenger on SIR RICHARD BRANSON's Virgin Galactic Mission - the first commercial spacecraft - in 2008.

The Princess' boyfriend DAVID CLARK, who works in the sales and marketing division of Branson's space travel project, claims she was apprehensive about the idea at first.

Clark says, "I've been on at her about it and she took some persuasion, but she has agreed to do it."

Clark would not reveal whether or not the Princess would be paying for the $190,000 (£100,000) ticket. (MP/WNSMA/ES)
