Sandra Yi ReportingA carjacking suspect is now in custody after a car crash and short foot chase.

The suspect is accused of an armed carjacking that happened yesterday. She managed to lose police once this morning, but a second attempt wasn't such a clean getaway.

Officers spotted the suspect in a stolen BMW SUV near Highland High School this morning, but they didn't pursue her because of all the traffic and the school kids. A few hours later, they saw her in the same area. She had pulled up behind a motor cop. He pointed his gun at her, but she swerved around.

She went through a red light, and slammed into a car at the intersection. That car then hit another car heading south on 1100 East. The suspect then got out of the vehicle and tried to run, but police were able to arrest her.

Skyler Wayman, Crash Victim: "I'm honestly surprised. I'm glad they got her, but it's terrible that it had to end this way."

Det. Robin Snyder, Salt Lake City Police Dept.:"That's what I heard too over the radio, that she possibly switched the license plates. She is wearing the same clothes that she was wearing yesterday. She had the same shirt, the same pants on that she had yesterday when she committed the carjacking."

That carjacking happened yesterday, just after noon. The victim had parked her car in the Brickyard Shopping Mall when the suspect approached her, pulled out a knife, and demanded the victim's BMW.

Police arrested Sela Samana. She was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail. Police aren't sure why she was driving around in the area where the carjacking happened.

Fortunately, no one was seriously hurt in the crash.
