SALT LAKE CITY -- The people who put on the popular touring play "Wicked" say they're seeing some of the longest lines yet for a "last chance" opportunity at extra tickets.
Two hours before each sold-out performance at the Capitol Theater, there is a lottery drawing for 20 orchestra seats. Each lottery winner can buy two $25, cash-only tickets. Up to 400 people have entered the drawing.
Company manager Steve Quinn told KSL News before opening day that he can't believe the enthusiasm here.
"They tell us Salt Lake is one of the top-selling cast albums we have here," he said. "I've played Salt Lake several times. I was here with 'Les Mis,' and also with 'Joseph' and Donny Osmond. I think the excitement equals that."
Quinn tells the Deseret News that in most markets the show is in its last week before it hits numbers near 300 in line for the lottery. But he says even last Wednesday, in the rain, 407 people showed up for a chance to get orchestra seats for the show.
Production Stage Manager Peter Van Dyke told KSL before opening day that the musical most likely will come back to Salt Lake.
"The way the tickets sold, I would pretty much guarantee that it would come back. It's the same as any touring production; as long as there's a market for it, it will keep coming back," he said.
