WOODCLIFF LAKE, N.J. (AFX) - Drug developer Barr Pharmaceuticals Inc. said Monday its subsidiary Duramed Pharmaceuticals Inc. has started shipping its Plan B emergency contraceptive to U.S. pharmacies.
The product, which has been granted three-year exclusivity by the Food and Drug Administration, will be available by the middle of November, according to Barr.
The drug received Food and Drug Administration clearance in August with a dual product designation, making it an over-the-counter drug for women age 18 years or older and prescription only for younger women. It replaces a prescription-only product that has been marketed in the United States since 1999.
Shares of Barr rose 94 cents to $50.83 in morning trading on the New York Stock Exchange. Copyright 2006 Associated Press. All rights reserved. This material may not be
