SALT LAKE CITY -- Salt Lake City public utilities decided Thursday afternoon to hold off on a fire suppression strategy for City Creek Canyon.
Wildfire specialists met this month with members of the community to talk about a shaded fuel break for the canyon. That technique would mean thinning the trees up to 100 feet from the side of the road.
Public opposition and questions that came out of that meeting convinced the city to form a group of specialists to take a closer look at the issues involved.
Specifically, residents were concerned about the impact on wildlife and plant life in City Creek Canyon.
