Gene Kennedy Reporting If your lunch plans today included a visit to BC's Chicken Restaurant in downtown Salt Lake City, you'll have to change them.
The man who owns the restaurant was supposedly serving up drugs as well as chicken. So were his employees, according to police.
Eyewitness News broke the story last night. This morning we couldn't help but notice the sign on the front door at 400 S. State Street which says BC's is closed because of electrical problems.
Not true, according to the health department. The department says the owner, Mahbod Fari, did not have a health permit and that his restaurant served up heroin and cocaine.
A citizen tipped police, so officers investigated.
Police say the restaurant sold drugs to an undercover narcotics officer twice in the last week. That was enough for a search warrant, and officers stormed the restaurant during yesterday's lunch rush.
Customers who know the owner and have enjoyed food at this business for years are surprised.
Perry Knuth/ Works Next Door: "They're really nice. They feed the poor if they don't have any food. They're just the nicest guys in the world. I love them."
Robert Timothy: "I've been coming here for six or seven years and he's always been friendly, courteous."
But now the restaurant's owner is behind bars and facing a slew of charges.
Not only did police arrest the restaurant's owner, but officers also seized cash and 50 to 100 units of cocaine and heroin in small quantities.
