Ashley Hayes ReportingProposition 3 will cost Utah and Salt Lake County residents $900 million if they approve the measure come election day.

The money would pay for commuter rails, TRAX and road projects. It's an expensive proposition-- $900 million is a lot of money. Residents would pay for Proposition 3 in the form of a quarter cent sales tax.

It's an investment elected officials across the Wasatch Front are teaming up to support.

Gov. Jon Huntsman/yesterday: "Welcome to the fifth fastest growing state in America. Because of the growth we need the infrastructure that will sustain our quality of life, and the ability for our economy basically to continue to provide the jobs that will make for quality of life."

Officials say Proposition 3 would give Utahns four new TRAX lines, to West Valley, West and South Jordan, Draper and the airport. It would make way for commuter rails connecting Salt Lake, Weber, Davis and Utah counties.

Proposition 3 also includes money for roads, like the new Mountain View corridor.

The fate of the proposition may have something to do with voters understanding the proposition before they read the ballots.

Gerri Adams, East Midvale Voter: "The way they write these propositions, we don't understand them sometimes. So I vote against them when I don't understand them."

That, of course, is a concern.

Proposition 3 would cost the average Utah family about $104 a year. That breaks down to $8.66 a month.
