OGDEN, Utah (AP) -- Weber State football coach Ron McBride has been suspended for a game after criticizing an official who worked the Wildcats' 24-18 loss at Montana State, the Big Sky Conference said.
McBride will not be on the sideline Saturday when Weber State plays host to Eastern Washington -- the Wildcats' final home game this season.
McBride criticized official Jim Wolfe for a false-start penalty on a fake punt late in the game.
Had the penalty not been called, the fake punt would have extended a fourth-quarter drive with the Wildcats leading 18-16.
McBride said he was told the left tackle had moved before the snap.
"And the left tackle didn't do anything," McBride told the Great Falls Tribune.
"I think the guy just made a mistake," the coach told the Ogden Standard-Examiner. "I think it was an inadvertent whistle and I don't know. It just baffled me because I'm watching the line of scrimmage and there ain't nobody moving."
Conference Commissioner Doug Fullerton said Monday the league doesn't tolerate criticism of officials. The Wildcats are 2-6 in McBride's second season.
