(KSL News) -- A historic downtown hotel checked out its last guests today. The Inn at Temple Square is now closed and will be demolished to make way for condominiums.

Some Utahns enjoyed one final stay last night to say goodbye to a place that holds so many memories. Sharon Jensen and her husband had their wedding and honeymoon here 40 years ago.

Sharon Jensen, Sandy: "It's the last day we'll spend in our honeymoon suite, and so yes, that's sad for us. It's been a good old building. It has lots of memories for us."

The building opened as the Hotel Temple Square in 1930. In recent years it has been renovated and turned into a 4-Star hotel with a bed and breakfast feel.

"It's a memory of a people who sacrificed much to give us what we have, and it's a history of a city that was built with much sacrifice."

The inn will probably be demolished in the next few weeks. Furniture and other items from the Inn are going to be auctioned off.
