SALT LAKE CITY -- Canned and boxed food filled parking lots across Utah for the annual Scouting for Food Drive.

Saturday morning Boy Scouts collected bags and boxes of donated food from their neighbors to give to the Utah Food Bank.

It's the bank's biggest one-day collection event. The Scouts had distributed shopping bags earlier in the week and picked them up door to door Saturday.

One Boy Scout, Spencer Marsh, said, "We know it's going to the homeless and the needy and we know we're giving some relief to them. So it's a pretty good feeling."

Last year the Scouts collected more than 500,000 pounds of food. This year they're hoping for more.
