SALT LAKE CITY -- A woman who is accused of intentionally running down her husband at his office building in 2006 is trying to plead "extreme emotional distress" as her defense.

Brenda White petitioned the Utah Court of Appeals Thursday to allow her to use the defense in her upcoming trial, but the court denied her request.

White is charged with first-degree attempted murder for crashing her SUV into the Woodland Towers building and hitting her husband twice. He suffered a broken leg and ankle.

A trial date has not yet been set.
