PROVO -- Boston Celtics guard J.R. Giddens has been re-assigned to the Utah Flash, the Celtics' NBA Development League affiliate.
The assignment is Giddens' third to the Flash this season and the 36th overall in the D-League. Giddens was originally assigned to the Flash between Nov. 25, 2008 and Jan. 8, 2009 and then again between Feb. 5 and Feb. 29, 2009.
Giddens, a 6-5 rookie guard, has played in six games for the Celtics this season, scoring four points in eight minutes.
In 15 games, 12 starts for the Flash, Giddens averaged 17.6 points and 5.7 rebounds while shooting 56 percent (108-of-193) from the field. Giddens scored in double figures on 14 occasions, twice finishing with points/rebounds double-doubles. His best game for the Flash came on Dec. 1, 2008 when he scored 34 points against the Bakersfield Jam at the McKay Events Center in Utah.
Selected in the first round (30th overall) by the Celtics in the 2008 NBA draft from the University of New Mexico, Giddens averaged 16.1 points and 7.7 rebounds during his two-year career is a Lobo. As a senior, Giddens started all 33 of New Mexico's games, and averaged career highs of 16.3 points, 8.7 rebounds and 2.1 assists. Giddens shared Mountain West Conference Co-Player of the Year and earned First Team All-Conference honors during his senior year.
Giddens is expected to join the Flash in Utah this weekend, but is not expected to be in uniform when the Flash host Erie tonight at 7 p.m. at the McKay Events Center.
