Gene Kennedy ReportingA man was assaulted over the weekend outside a Salt Lake City apartment complex, now police say it's a murder. It happened at the Edison apartments.

Police have a man in custody; his name is Makisi Fakahafua Junior. Officers somehow tracked him down, interviewed him and arrested him. Police say he argued with the victim in a parking lot, then beat him.

From the balcony of the Edison apartments, you can see a large black stain on the pavement. At first glance it looks like car oil, but it's actually where Luke RunningBear bled to death Saturday night, according to witnesses.

"Raul", Witness: "Bleeding from the mouth, nose ears. Couldn't even breathe. He was choking on his own blood. You couldn't say that's him, you know." Reporter: "Just beaten beyond recognition?" "Yeah"

Police are still trying to figure out what led up to this parking lot murder. The suspect has been arrested on suspicion of homicide, but official charges haven't been filed against him. Investigators are still collecting evidence.

Police believe 25-year old Makisi Fakahafua punched the victim several times then took off. Now he's behind bars. He also has a previous criminal history.

Police are hoping to figure out what caused this murder and if anyone else was involved.
