Amanda Butterfield Reporting A fatal crash in Brigham City has moved people there to push for improved safety at a dangerous intersection.

It happened on US 91. That's one of the main roads into Brigham City. It happened at the first intersection, 775 W. 1100 South, an intersection that some drivers say is way too dangerous.

"Scary." That's how Tom Jones describes it. He drives this road every day, and every day sees the same thing.

"The light's red by the time they get across the intersection, and they're going 60 to 70 miles an hour," he explains.

It's the same thing when drivers are coming down Sardine Canyon. It didn't used to be like this, but Brigham City is growing.

"This was all fields. Basically that's all it was, all fields."

Now there's a Wal-Mart, car dealerships, fast food chains. The city's police department says this is one of the busiest intersections in town. And this morning it was fatal.

"The pickup truck did make a left hand turn and was more or less t-boned by the semi truck," Lt. Mike Nelsen of the Brigham City Police Department said.

UDOT officials say it appears the driver of the semi ran a red light. Two people in the pickup died.

"The right side of that pickup truck went right in. It was a horrific accident," Nelsen said.

That's why drivers like Jones think the intersection is scary, and something needs to be done about it.

"People need to slow down," Joens said.

"I think some laws need to change as far as traffic goes," another motorist agreed.

UDOT is working with Brigham City police to determine if something needs to be done, and if so, what. They could look at perhaps lowering the speed limit, adding another light, or adding more patrols.
