SALT LAKE CITY -- Some Utah club owners expect a bit of confusion between now and July 1st when a new law lifting a requirement on private club memberships is expected to take effect.

Lumpy's co-owner Ken Dinsmore says they're happy to see the change. "The bar is open!" he exclaimed in an interview with KSL.

But Dinsmore says there are still a lot of questions to be answered. Take memberships for example. Dinsmore says the law, right now, requires a charge of at least a dollar-per month, but what about people who want a membership on June 30th? He says details over current paid memberships and equipment still need to be worked out.

"The law is the law until July 1st," Dinsmore said. He plans to meet with his staffers next week to talk about the interim and, hopefully, to answer some questions. "We're glad to see it go away, so we'll deal with the next few months," he said.

The law removes the private club membership in Utah but requires all clubs to scan drivers licenses of all patrons who look younger than 35.

The governor is expected to sign the bill into law. He's long supported the effort to remove the private membership requirement, saying it will be a boost to the state's $6 billion tourism industry.
