Utah's gas prices up 5 cents from last month

SALT LAKE CITY -- Despite the down economy, gas prices have jumped 5 cents in the past month, according to AAA Utah.

In Utah, the average cost for a gallon of regular, self-serve gasoline is $1.76. That is 5 cents higher than last month's report, but $1.37 lower than a year ago.

Utah's average price is the second lowest in the country. Wyoming has the cheapest gas at an average of $1.74.

The national average is $1.94, only one cent higher than last month's report, but a $1.28 lower than a year ago.

Alaska's average, $2.52, is the highest in the country.

California's average, $2.20, is the highest in the lower 48 states.

The Utah cities surveyed by AAA all experienced slight increases this past month except St. George, where the price shot up 15 cents from last month.

The average price in St. George is $1.85.

Ogden's current average, $1.73, is seven cents higher than last month. Logan increased five cents to the current $1.70.

Motorists in Salt Lake City and Provo experienced four-cent jumps. The average price in Provo is $1.73. Salt Lake City is $1.71.

Moab's average price increased 2 cents to $1.77. Vernal's average price, $1.77, is 1 cent higher than last month.

According to AAA, there is little consistency when comparing gasoline prices throughout the Intermountain West. Idaho's average price increased 3 cents to $1.82 a gallon. Montana saw a 16-cent increase to $1.94.

Wyoming's current average price, $1.74, is 10 cents higher than a month ago.

Colorado's $1.83 and Arizona's $1.99 are the same as last month.

Nevada jumped 3 cents to $2.17.

California's price dropped 3 cents to the current $2.20.
