SYRACUSE -- A teenager faces some serious charges after police say he brandished a gun at the end of a road rage incident then claimed he was an officer.

Syracuse City Police Chief Brian Wallace says it happened Saturday when one vehicle began tailgating another on Gentile Street. The two cars collided after the driver of the front vehicle slammed on the brakes.

Wallace says that's when 18-year-old Kendal Lee Lukens came out of the front car with a loaded .380 handgun, pulled back the hammer and, using expletives, told the people to get out of the car.

"And told them he was a Weber County cop," Wallace said.

Wallace says by the time the real police arrived, Lukens had put the gun back in his car.

He was arrested on numerous charges and made a court appearance Monday on three misdemeanor charges, including carrying a concealed weapon, threatening or using a dangerous weapon in a fight, and impersonating a police officer.

Wallace says the county attorney and detectives are screening possible felony charges against Lukens.

"This could have been tragic", said Wallace. He says both cars were full of young people who didn't have any past association. "When you pull a gun on someone and pull back the hammer, it doesn't take a lot of pressure to hit the trigger and somebody gets shot."
