This is Fred Ball for Zions Bank, speaking on business.
Inspiring a family legacy was the last thing 22-year-old Reed Brinton was expecting to do when he joined New York Life.
In 1937, Reed's uncle convinced him to move from his native Utah to Los Angeles to become an agent with the company. Reed was quite resourceful, and he used his ingenuity to build a loyal client base. After moving back to Utah in 1945, Reed's success continued as he led New York Life in sales in 1947 and was the company's second-highest grossing salesman in '48.
Reed has been a very dear friend for over 50 years. He is my golfing buddy and we have traveled around the world together. Reed is now 93 years old and is still a formidable opponent on the links. He regularly shoots his age.
Reed's son Steve had grown up watching his father succeed in the insurance business, and it seemed only natural that Steve would join his father. After graduating from the University of Utah with a degree in finance, Steve became a New York Life agent, the only one of his father's sons to do so. In turn, his own son, Taylor, got involved with the company in 2008, bringing Brinton Financial Group into its third generation of affiliation with the insurance industry.
Steve tells me his Salt Lake office provides life insurance and estate planning, which includes selling investments, variable annuities, life income, and a relatively new component — long-term care insurance. This type of insurance is intended to protect families and businesses. As the population of Baby Boomers ages, Steve says long-term care insurance can keep families from feeling the burden that often results from those expenses.
Technology has enabled Steve to better serve his clients and customer protection has also increased dramatically in the last 15 years. Because of the company's solid history in the industry, Steve says Brinton Financial Group is mindful of the uncertainty of the future and is well positioned to take care of its customers.
