Weber County sheriff's deputies are searching for a man who escaped from the county jail this morning.

Guards say 47-year-old Stephen Ball walked away from a job shoveling snow on jail grounds at about 9:30. A deputy saw him walking away and yelled at him, but Ball took off running.

Weber County sheriff's Lt. Klint Anderson says investigators have been talking with friends and family, trying to track Ball down. But he says they don't believe he is dangerous.

"It seems like the only time he gets combative is when we try to take him into custody," Anderson said.

Ball was in jail on a probation violation and had been there for a week. The original charges involved drug paraphernalia and attempted assault of a police officer.
