Hi! I have a question. I just moved to Farmington, Utah. I want to know why on earth we have such crazy wind storms!! I've been here a month and we've had a lot of crazy wind!
Thanks so much for satisfying my curiosity.
Sincerely, Michelle R.

Hey Michell, welcome to Utah! It's not that it's particularly windy in the whole state but you live by a canyon. Farmington canyon is near you and at night it drains out. The air that's rushing down the canyon you feel as wind is called a canyon wind. Canyon winds can get pretty nasty during the evening and overnight hours, sometimes if you are driving near the canyon you can even feel it in your car.
The air during the day with the trees and rocks in the canyons warms up. When the sun goes down it cools off rapidly. Cold air sinks, so this air is forced down the canyon. You feel really strong winds as a result.
