Press ReleaseColorado Springs, Colo. - Senior center Luke Nevill of the University of Utah men's basketball team has been named the Mountain West Conference Co-Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday. Nevill has now earned the award four times this season.
Nevill, a 7-2 center from Perth, Australia, led Utah to home wins over BYU (94-88 OT) and New Mexico (69-68) as the Utes moved into a three-way tie for first-place in the MWC.
Against rival BYU, Nevill posted a career-high 32 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for his eighth double-double of the season. He shot 10-for-12 from the floor and made a personal-best 12 free throws on 14 attempts.
In Saturday's one-point win over New Mexico, Nevill scored 11 points, while blocking four shots, dishing out three assists and grabbing six rebounds. On the week, Nevill averaged 21.5 points, 8.0 rebounds, two blocks and two assists per game. He shot 12-for-20 from the field (60.0 percent) and 19-for-22 from the charity stripe (86.4 percent).
Nevill currently leads the MWC in rebounding (8.3 rpg) and blocked shots (2.67 bpg), is ranked second in the league in field goal percentage (.609) and scoring (17.6 ppg) and is ninth in the MWC in free throw percentage (.791).
Nevill was the co-winner this week with San Diego State's Lorenzo Wade.
Utah hits the road for a pair of games this week, beginning with TCU on Wednesday in Fort Worth, Texas, at 5:30 p.m. MT. The Utes then head to Laramie, Wyo. for a 2 p.m. Saturday matchup at Wyoming.
