(KSL News) -- A Utah lawmaker is leading a national effort to prevent child abductions.
Senator Lyle Hillyard will introduce a bill that gives judges more authority to step in when parents are suspected of trying to abduct their own children.
Courts will be allowed to restrict parental contact, revoke a passport or require a bond before the parent is granted visitation.
In 1999, 78-percent of children abducted nationwide were taken by a family member.
