Employees called police and they arrested 26 year-old Rubento Gaspar on suspicion of criminal mischief and trespassing. Police don't know why Gasper broke into UDOT, but he cooperated once police got involved.

Off. Michelle Ross / Salt Lake City Police: "It just might have been opportunity. It's not uncommon to see someone doing that. But mainly that would be in a vacant building, in a different area. (reporter question: "So it's unusual for someone to break-in to a UDOT government building?") "Correct."

If found guilty, Gaspar will likely have to pay for the broken door. If he can't afford it, police say, odds are the taxpayers will foot the bill.

The Traffic Operations Center is located near 3200 W. 2100 South.
