OGDEN, Utah (AP) -- Students involved in a rollover accident that killed a 16-year-old girl after a homecoming dance said they were not using alcohol.
A 15-year-old boy remained in a coma at McKay-Dee Hospital.
"None of us were drinking at all. ... We had no alcohol," said Brandon Albrecht, 17, a passenger in the sports-utility vehicle.
Armed with a search warrant, Weber County authorities took a blood sample from the 17-year-old driver after the Hummer rolled several times early Sunday. Sheriff's Capt. Klint Anderson has said alcohol and excessive speed were likely factors.
Test results were not expected for days, he said.
There were six teenagers in the Hummer. Melina Rosas died, and Max Rodriguez was critically injured.
They attended a dance at Ogden High School and then visited a haunted house Saturday night.
"None of us were drinking," Rodriguez' brother, Israel Rodriguez, 17, said. "How can you drink in a haunted house? We were running."
Moments before the rollover, the Hummer driver passed another car on a two-lane road and then her cell phone rang, Albrecht said.
"She looked at it and picked it up. ... Then (the road) turned into a turn and she didn't see it very quick. And then we turned and we started rolling," he said.
