YOUR EARDRUM — As a mom of several soccer players, the 2026 World Cup has been streaming in every main living space in my home.
As a non-soccer-playing human with other things that occupy my time, I haven't been paying much attention. Something World Cup-related, however, did pique my interest mid-YouTube scroll: a man playing bagpipes to the ears of many unassuming people during what appeared to be a pre-game tailgate gathering.
"Did Scotland play in the World Cup?" I asked my oldest son. To which, he confirmed that the bagpipe-playing subset of the population did, in fact, win a game against Haiti, 1-0.
As much as I do enjoy a good bagpipe rendition of pretty much anything, I'm not sure I'd enjoy it 3 inches from my head.
Then, again, if I were cheering on my country in an event that happens every four years, I'd sacrifice my eardrums for the cause.
This video, which has just over 100 views, makes me want to rejoin that bagpipe class I took when I was 17. Being able to play the bagpipes would be a useful skill on school mornings to wake up the masses.
