SOUTH OGDEN — A woman has been arrested on suspicion of murder in the death of her boyfriend after some sort of altercation with the man.

On responding to a call to a home Tuesday near 4100 South and 850 East in South Ogden, police found an "unresponsive" man seated on a couch with a bloody towel on his chest and underneath his chin. The man "was found to have a long gash on the top of his head toward the forehead," according to a police booking affidavit. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Terri Morgan, 51, had called authorities and was ultimately arrested for investigation of murder. She is being held without bail in the Weber County Jail.

Morgan told authorities she had "pushed a bottle against the decedent's face after becoming upset due to his alcoholism," the affidavit states. "Terri visually reenacted how this occurred by showing that she pushed her arm outward, toward the decedent's face, which caused an immediate gash to the decedent's face."

She applied pressure to the wound with a towel, according to the affidavit, and once the bleeding stopped, she said the man refused additional medical help. She said she then took a nap, tired by all the activity, but later called for help.

South Ogden police searched the woman's cellphone, finding a text message thread with pictures of the man and the bloody towel on his chest "associated with messages stating, 'I smashed the bottle over his head,'" the arrest report says. Police say the timestamp on the message threat was about 30 minutes before the call was made to dispatchers.

Police found signs of some sort of fight at the home, including a hole in a wall and glass shards on the living room couch where the man was located. Morgan had blood "smeared over her face, hands, legs," the affidavit alleges.
