It's hard to think of the sun on such a stormy day, but Salt Lake County is thinking of how the sun can help save money and the environment.

Speaking in front of a huge display about the sun, Mayor Peter Corroon announced a huge initiative to start installing solar power on 20 of the county's 100 buildings next year. He says solar energy makes sense. "It conserves natural resources, it protects the environment, and it will also be cost effective," he said.

The Salt Palace, recreation centers, libraries, jail and main government center will get the panels, and it should save money. Corroon says the initiative will stabilize the rate the county pays for electricity by up to 30 percent over the next 20 to 25 years.

Corroon hopes the efforts will create green jobs and help the environment, too.
