MIDVALE — A pedestrian was hit and killed by a vehicle on State Street in Midvale on Monday.

The crash occurred when a northbound vehicle struck a pedestrian at 7651 S. State, according to Unified Police Sgt. Aymee Race. The vehicle swerved to try to avoid hitting the pedestrian, but collided with another vehicle, which struck and downed a power line on the other side of the street, Race said.

The drivers of both vehicles were taken to the hospital, where they remained in critical condition Monday afternoon, according to police.

Police have not released any information about the pedestrian who was killed. Further details about the cause of the crash were not immediately available.

State Street was closed for several hours, and a representative of Rocky Mountain Power was on scene to turn off power to the hazardous downed power line. All roads had reopened by 2:35 p.m., according to police.
